Loretta Fisher Monroe, 89, passed away surrounded by the family she loved so deeply.

Loretta was born on September 3, 1937, in Pacific Junction, Iowa. She spent most of her life in Southwest Iowa, the place she called home for nearly eight decades. In 2015, she made a big change and moved to Spring Hill, Florida, to live with her daughter, Sharon, where she would spend the final years of her life close to her family.

Loretta worked at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, IA for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Monroe; her son, Ricky Lee Bird, who passed away in infancy in March 1955; and her daughter, Julie Smith. She carried those losses with her while continuing to be an important part of the lives of the generations that followed.

Loretta is survived by her daughter, Sharon Steck; her granddaughters, Stepho Lorenz, Jaimie Alliel, Sam DiMauro, and Jessica Wiese; her grandsons, Brandon Smith and Christopher Smith; and her great-grandchildren: Camden, Zaydan, Nathan, Rodney, Naomi, Ryne, Addison, and Callan.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA.  Burial will follow in the Hamburg Cemetery in Hamburg, IA.
