Wolverines down Griswold in districts
East Mills notched its third win of the season over Griswold with an 8-1 win in the Class 1A, Substate 8 opening round Saturday at Tri-Center High School in Neola.
Wolverine pitcher Ryan Sayers tossed a 82-pitch gem on the mound in the win. The junior scattered three hits and one earned run while striking out six.
“Sayers had a good outing, the defense played pretty clean and we were able to pound hits,” said East Mills coach Lee Christians.
The Wolverines collected 12 hits in the win. Zach Thornburg, Lincoln Palmer, Fletcher Proctor and Anthony Anderson had two hits each. Proctor drove in two runs and Sayers helped his own cause with two-run double.
Bode Wyman took the loss on the hill for the Tigers. Wyman allowed seven hits and four earned runs. The junior also had had two hits and scored a run.
Kolbe Klindt, Brayden Lockwood and Wyatt Silk each added hits.
The Wolverines (10-10) were to play at last night in the substate second round against host Tri-Center (17-8). Full results of that game can be found in the next edition of The Opinion-Tribune.

East Mills 7
Silas Walston and Izaak Dukes both smacked home runs for Bedford in an 11-7 victory over East Mills in non-conference baseball last Monday.
Walston and Dukes combined to go 5-for-8 at the plate and drive in three runs and scored five runs.
Marcus Knighton got the win on the hill after surrendering three hits and striking out four in 4 and 1/3 innings of work.
Ryan Sayers was credited with the loss for the Wolverines. The junior allowed 11 hits and five earned runs while striking out two.
Anthony Anderson had three hits and drove in two runs and Cooper Hagen and Zach Thornburg had two hits each for the Wolverines.
