Rams second at Bennington

The Glenwood girls cross country team competed in its first meet in 12 days and finished second at the Bennington, Neb. Lakeside Invitational Thursday.

The host Badgers, ranked No. 2 in Nebraska’s Class B, won the team title with a score of 32. The Rams tallied 42 points for second place.

“It was nice finally be able to compete again,” said Glenwood coach Marissa Klindt, whose team had their last meet cancelled by rain. “(Athletic Director) Mr. (Jeff) Bissen worked hard to find a meet for our girls, and we really appreciate it.”

Klindt called Bennington a “great pack running” team. That’s something she’s been working with her team on in practice.

“We’re not quite there yet, but we are seeing the gap shrink between our No. 1 and No. 3 runners,” she said. “We’ll keep working on pack running because that’ll help us be successful in the later meets. Most of our JV girls ran their best times of the season, so it’s exciting to see that progress.”

Seward, Neb. had the top two individual finishers with Tessa Greisen running a 20:51 for first and Karnie Gottschalk second in 20:58.

Glenwood’s Katelyn Berglund was third with a time of 21:03.

Lauren Hughes added another top ten finish for the Rams, running a 21:35 for seventh place. Breckyn Petersen added a 16th place finish, Brooklyn Schultz 19th place and Haylee Hughes 23rd to round out Glenwood’s scoring.
