Rams Roll Past Monarchs, 92-50

Colin Steele knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the Rams’ win over Denison.

Glenwood knocked down 9-of-16 three-point shots and shot 60% from the field en route to a 92-50 road victory at Denison on Friday night.

The Rams, who improved to 17-4 with the victory, opened up a double-digit lead in the first quarter and built the advantage to 47-30 by halftime.

The Rams picked up in the third quarter where they left off before intermission as the Monarchs struggled to find their offensive rhythm and a defensive scheme to cool off the Rams’ hot shooting.

Ayden Gibson led the way for Glenwood with 27 game-high points, while Drew Schroeder pitched in 17. Jack Johnson also reached double figures with 10 points to go along with his nine rebounds, two steals and seven assists.

Defensively, the Rams recorded nine steals and five blocked shots.

Glenwood Coach Curt Schulte said the Rams appear to be peaking at the right time, calling Friday’s win, “probably our most complete game of the season.”

“I thought we played well from both ends of the floor. I thought we played 32 solid minutes of basketball and that was really good to see,” he said. “From the field, we shot 60% and from the 3-point line 56%, so I guess I’ll take those two stats.

“I feel good with where we’re at and the direction we’re going.”

Schulte singled out several players for their performance and noted that 11 players made it into the scoring column.

“Overall, everybody contributed and it was a good team win for us,” he said.

With the loss, Denison’s record fell to 2-18.

Glenwood is back in action Wednesday afternoon, taking on Lewis Central in Council Bluffs to close out the regular season. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday night but was been postponed until Wednesday at 4 p.m. because of weather conditions.

The Rams will begin postseason play by hosting Harlan in a Class 3A Substate District 1 game Monday night.
