Water Loss Issues Continue At Glenwood Aquatic Center

The summer swimming season is over at the Glenwood Aquatic Center.

With the swimming season at the Glenwood Aquatic Center coming to an end last weekend, city officials will now turn their attention to addressing nagging water-loss issues that have plagued the facility over the past several years.

City Administrator Amber Farnan told city council members last week the pool used over 1.4 million gallons of water this summer. The pool requires 275,000 gallons of water to get filled and has been filled several times this year, just to stay at minimum capacity.

Farnan noted that if the city was being billed by Glenwood Municipal Utilities, the sewer cost this summer would be around $14,000 and the water bill would be just under $8,000.

The facility will be inspected in the coming weeks and repairs are likely to take place in the fall or next spring prior to the 2025 swimming season.

Water-loss issues kept the aquatic center from opening in 2022 and delayed the start of the 2023 season. Major repairs, some covered by warranty, have been made at the aquatic center in recent years but water loss has continued to be a problem. The facility opened in July 2016.
