Glenwood's Fast Lane Kicks Off Show Choir Season

Glenwood Community High School’s varsity show choir - Fast Lane - kicked off its season Thursday night with a premier performance in the GCHS auditorium.
Our theme this year is “Greek Gods and Goddesses: Strength Within.” This show celebrates the power of self-worth, the importance of believing in yourself and discovering the strength that has always been within you,” said GCHS Vocal Music Director Megan McGuigan. “It was choreographed by L.D. Kidd. Since August, our students have been working hard on this show. They’ve demonstrated incredible flexibility, teamwork, and perseverance in overcoming challenges together. It’s been truly inspiring to watch them lift each other up, rely on one another, and use their unique talents to support the group. It is definitely a team effort, and every person involved plays a vital role.”
The premier was the first of seven public performances and competitions for Fast Lane this year. The choir will perform two more times in Glenwood - on Feb. 1 at the Glenwood Gala and on March 7 as the season winds down. The Glenwood Gala, will feature performances from high school show choirs from across the region.
“We’re also gearing up for our biggest event of the year, the Glenwood Gala, which serves as a vital fundraiser for our show choir.,” McGuigan said. “This is a show choir competition we host here at Glenwood High School. There will be 11 other schools here competing.”
Hosting the event is a major undertaking and McGuigan said volunteers are needed throughout the day to assist in several capacities. Volunteers can schedule a time to work by emailing McGuigan at mcguiganmeg@glenwoodschools.org.
“Even if you don’t volunteer, come and cheer on the show choirs,” she said. “It’s a blast to see all the groups and their different shows right here in Glenwood.”
