Glenwood Students Inducted Into National Honor Society

Twenty-six students were inducted into the Glenwood Honor Keys chapter of the National Honor Society during a ceremony last week in the auditorium at Glenwood Community High School.

The National Honor Society was founded in 1921 as an organization that would recognize and encourage academic achievement while also developing characteristics essential in a democracy through four pillars - scholarship, character, service and leadership. Induction into NHS is one of the highest academic-based honors a high school student can achieve. The Glenwood chapter was founded in 1963.

Last week’s induction ceremony included a traditional candle lighting ceremony recognizing the four pillars of NHS and  addresses from current GCHS National Honor Society officers and guest speaker Nicole Kooiker, superintendent of the Glenwood Community School District.

Distinguished Scholars

Prior to last week’s National Honor Society induction ceremony, 130 Glenwood Community High School students were recognized as Distinguished Scholars. Students must achieve a minimum grade point average of 3.5 (on 4.0 scale) for at least two consecutive semesters to earn the designation.
