Glenwood Selects Malvern City Clerk Joe George To Fill Interim City Administrator Post
Malvern City Clerk Joe George will take on some additional duties with the City of Glenwood in November. He has agreed to serve as the interim Glenwood city administrator while the city finds a replacement for outgoing city administrator Amber Farnan.
Farnan is expected to be elected Mills County Auditor in next week’s election and will assume her new duties after election results are certified. She’s unopposed on the ballot.
The Glenwood City Council approved the arrangement with George at its regular meeting last week. George will be paid $55 an hour and work no more than 30 hours a week. The arrangement will be temporary and George will continue to serve as city clerk for the city of Malvern while working for Glenwood.
Glenwood Mayor Angie Winquist said the arrangement is “short term” but she’s uncertain how long George’s services will be needed.
“It will be worth it because we’re going to utilize his experience,” she said.
Winquist said George will work for Glenwood with the approval of the Malvern City Council.
Glenwood City Council members Donnie Kates and Christina Duran both voiced support for the arrangement.
“When we spoke to him (George) here last week, I was very impressed,” Kates said.
Duran said George is a “good fit.”
“He’ll be able to hit the ground running,” she said.
