Harriet Leona Hineline, 92, Glenwood

Harriet Leona Hineline, age 92, of Glenwood, died March 17, 2009, at Glen Haven Home in Glenwood. According to her wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date with inurnment in the Sidney Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 4, 1916, on a farm near Madelia, Minn. to Roscoe D. and Nora (Harris) Hineline. She had two brothers, James and Harlond. When she was about three years old, the family moved back to Iowa to farm four miles west of Percival. She was raised and spent her childhood there and attended Richetts Country Grade School. In 1935, she graduated from Sidney High School.

She moved to Shenandoah, where she was employed in the office of Peerless Laundry. It was in Shenandoah that she met and married Johnnie Helms in 1938. The couple relocated to Clarinda in 1939. On Feb. 4, 1940, daughter Connie was born. The family moved to Glenwood and in May of 1944 began their career in the restaurant business for many years. Mrs. Hineline had her own business, The West Side Café from 1957-63. She helped open the new Holiday Inn in Red Oak and worked at Walgreens in Council Bluffs, for eight years and later at J.C. Penney’s. She returned to Glenwood in 1979.

Mrs. Hineline belonged to the I.O.O.F. Rebekah Lodge in Glenwood for 32 years and held Noble Grand twice and attended state conventions. She was a member of the First Congregational U.C.C. in Glenwood, did R.S.V.P. work for many years and helped with the Blood Mobile.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James and Harlond Hineline and son-in-law Bob Harms. She is survived by her daughter Connie Harms of Glenwood; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; other relatives and a host of friends.

Memorials may be made to the Glenwood Fire Department or Glen Haven Home in Glenwood. Peterson Mortuary was in charge of services.
