Edna B. Bolte, 99, Silver City

Edna Blanche Bolte, age 99, of Silver City, died at Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs on Feb. 15, 2009. Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at the Silver City United Methodist Church. Officiating was Rev. Michael Stevens. Interment was in the Silver City Cemetery.

One of nine children of Addie Dora (Stotts) Decker and Frank Alvin Decker, she was born at her parent’s farm home north of Silver City, on Sept. 10, 1909. She attended the Box Elder Country School through the eighth grade and then worked on the farm with her family and helped care for her grandmother.

On Aug. 17, 1932, she and Harvey Claudius Bolte were married at the Methodist Parsonage in Plattsmouth, Neb. They made their home near Silver City, where Mr. Bolte farmed. Their marriage was blessed with their daughter, Waunita. Mrs. Bolte enjoyed being a mother and homemaker and all the jobs involved in living on a farm. The family were active members of the Silver City United Methodist Church. Mrs. Bolte also helped the community and youth by serving as a 4-H leader. She enjoyed sewing and handwork, and in later years, making afghans for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even her future great-great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed making baby quilts and dolls for the Mica House.

Mr. and Mrs. Bolte had been married 38 years when he died as a result of a train accident in February of 1971. Mrs. Bolte moved into Silver City where she continued to remain active in the church and community. She served on the city council for five years, chaired the Centennial Committee, and served on the Mills County Extension Board. She was a member of the Silver City United Methodist Church for more than 70 years. In August of 2007, she moved to the Risen Son Christian Village.

Mrs. Bolte was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harvey Bolte; sisters, Ethel Wilhelm; and Edith Glebe; brothers, Ernest Decker; Guy Decker; Arch Decker; infant brother William Decker; Harold Decker; and Gail Decker. She is survived by her daughter, Waunita Reinert and her husband Dwayne of Glenwood; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Memorials suggested to the Silver City United Methodist Church or Silver City Library. Hertz Funeral Home of Glenwood was in charge of arrangements.
