Donald L. Proctor, 80, Glenwood

Donald Lee Proctor, age 80, of Glenwood, died at the Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs, on May 28, 2009. Graveside funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 10:30 a.m., at the Glenwood Cemetery. Pastor Mark Smeltzer of Glenwood Community Church will officiate.

One of three children of Pauline Katherine (Rainey) Proctor and Harry Rueben Proctor, he was born in Hamburg, on June 2, 1928. His father worked for area farmers and as a result, the family lived in several Southwest Iowa communities. They eventually settled in Glenwood, where he attended the Glenwood Community Schools. In January 1946, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served with the 103rd Naval Construction Battalion. He was discharged in 1947 from the USN Becsta in San Pedro, Calif. He returned to Glenwood where he worked for area farmers, drove a truck, and met his future wife, Lillian Francis Crosby. They were married in Glenwood on May 29, 1968. They made their home in Glenwood where Mr. Proctor began working for the railroad. He enjoyed being a member of the Glenwood American Legion Post No. 141 and loved to garden with his wife. The couple had been married nearly 40 years when she died on May 29, 2007. He continued to live at his home in Glenwood and remained close to his niece, Roberta Scott and her family.

Mr. Proctor was preceded in death by his parents; wife Lillian Proctor; daughter Debbie Proctor; and sisters, Barbara Davis and Phyllis Proctor. He is survived by his daughter Linda Honken and husband Al of Lone Rock; stepson Pat McLaughlin; one niece; one grandson; four great-grandchildren; three great-nieces; other relatives and friends.

Memorials are suggested to Glenwood American Legion Post No. 141. Hertz Funeral Home of Glenwood is in charge of arrangements.
