Allan C. Burdic, 76, Malvern

September 16, 1935 - January 20, 2012

Allan Clarke Burdic, 76, of Malvern, passed away Jan. 20, 2012, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs. A “Time of Gathering” visitation was held Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at the Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home in Malvern. There were no scheduled services or interment. Memorials are suggested to Malvern Volunteer Rescue or Fairview Country Club Playground Fund. Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home of Malvern was in charge of arrangements.
Allan, son of Catherine (Schneider) Burdic and Eugene W. Burdic, was born  Sept. 16, 1935, in Omaha, Neb. He spent much of his childhood in Plattsmouth, Neb., but moved to Malvern with his parents in 1946. Allan attended Malvern High School through his junior year and then transferred to Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Mo., where he graduated in 1953. Following graduation, Allan briefly attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, but after less than a year in school, he enrolled in the United States Navy and moved to Hutchinson, Kan. While in the Navy, he spent many weekends driving or hitchhiking back and forth to Lincoln, to see old friends. Once his Navy commitment was fulfilled, he moved back to Omaha and began working at First National Bank of Omaha in 1957. It was during his time in Omaha that he would have the great fortune of meeting his future wife, Marilyn Jean Karstens, in the spring of 1960. They married Feb. 11, 1961, and immediately moved to Malvern, where he had begun working at the family-owned bank one year earlier. They were quickly blessed with the birth of their two children, Susan Lennea in 1962 and Jay Patrick in 1964.
Allan spent the rest of his life at the bank, becoming president in 1975 and later chairman of the board. He was very active in civic organizations throughout the years, and in 2010 was recognized as a 50-year banker by the Iowa Banker’s Association. His love of car racing and motorcycle riding were well known, but his greatest joys in life were the moments he spent traveling, sharing holidays with family and wintering in Arizona with Marilyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother Dixie K. Burdic; and sister Mary (Burdic) Kratville.
Allan is survived by his beloved wife of almost 51 years, Marilyn J. Burdic of Malvern; daughter, Susan L. Johnson and husband Mark of Sedalia, Mo., and their children, Emilee Bassett and husband Andrew and their son Malakhi, of Fenton, Mo., Maggie Johnson of Springfield, Mo., and Bryce Johnson of Kansas City, Mo.; son Jay Burdic and wife Jessica and their children, Emersyn and Beau, of Malvern; step-sister Kathleen Gregory and husband Woody of Fresno, Calif.; nieces and nephews; and many friends.
