Write-in Candidate Tim Becker Elected to School Board

Write-in candidate Tim Becker is the newest member of the Glenwood Board of Education.

Becker received 492 votes in last Tuesday’s general election and claimed one of two at-large seats, along with Curt Becker who received 561 votes. Third-place finisher Elizabeth Cooper received 329 votes.

Elizabeth Richardson was also elected to the Glenwood school board to occupy the at-large seat she had been previously appointed to fill. She was unopposed on the ballot and received 701 votes.

Two seats were up on the East Mills Board of Education. Mark Stearns was unopposed for the District 1 seat and received 327 votes, while Janet Zanders ran unopposed for the District 2 seat and received 339 votes.
Former Glenwood Community School District Superintendent Stan Sibley was unopposed and elected to the District 2 seat on the Iowa Western Community College Board of Trustees, taking over the seat held for eight years by Glenwood banker Larry Winum.

On the municipal side of the general election, Glenwood mayor Ron Kohn ran unopposed and was re-elected to a second two-year term with 342 votes. Incumbent city council members Dan McComb (at large), Jeremy Rodman (Ward 1) and Donald Kates (Ward 2) were also unopposed and re-elected to 4-year terms.

In Emerson, Stephanie Latta was elected mayor with 73 votes. She defeated write-in candidate Herbert Petereit, who received 34 votes. Randy Gray, Mike Branigan and write-in candidate Robert Huntsman were elected for three seats on the city council with 96, 63 and 56 votes respectively. James Skalberg Sr. received 33 votes for a fourth-place finish.
In Hastings, Troy Hatcher was elected mayor with three write-in votes. Ryan Campbell, also a write-in candidate received one vote. Five people were elected to the Hastings City Council with write-in votes – Susan Perkins, 4; Dustin Crouse, Ryan Campbell and Andy Roscoe, 3; and Alan Crouse, 2. Jesse Jones garnered three write-in votes to be elected city treasurer.

Joel Tomford was elected mayor in Henderson with 23 votes, while Janelle Williams and Reid Schacht received 23 and 18 votes respectively to be elected to the city council.

The race for mayor in Malvern was close, with Fred A. Moreau edging Douglas Shere, 87-83. Roger Johnson and Bruce Breeding were elected to the city council with 142 and 117 votes respectively.

Andy Young received 28 votes to be re-elected mayor of Pacific Junction. LaFay Harlie Brown received 13 write-in votes. Brown was the top vote-getter for the city council with 31 votes, followed by Connie Turner with 28. Write-in candidates Butch Green, Terry Parham, Larry Turner and Vicky Mauer were elected with 23, 22, 14 and 12 votes respectively.
In Silver City, Rose Mary Schoening was  elected mayor with 50 votes, while Jason V. Young and write-in Kathy Bauge received 53 and 10 votes for election to two seats on the city council.
