Wolverines roll to 79-38 win
Anthony Rainey led four East Mills players in double-figures with 21 points as the Wolverines routed Heartland Christian 79-38 in Corner Conference basketball Friday.
The Wolverines (8-9 overall, 6-5 in the conference) built a 33-18 lead at halftime then exploded for 25 points in the third quarter to blow the game open. For the game, East Mills shot 49.2 percent (30-of-65) and scored a season-high 79 points.
“This was the best we have shot from behind the arc in quite a while,” said East Mills coach Kevin Schafer. “Also our defense caused turnovers which led to some easy baskets. We only had five turnovers.”
Rainey hit 8-of-11 shots against the Eagles, including all three of his three-point attempts, pulled down nine rebounds and grabbed four steals.
“He helps our depth a great deal,” Schafer said of Rainey. “He gives us another player who can drive to the bucket. Foul trouble by one of our guards does not hurt as much as it did early in the season. He has improved as the season is progressing and he is getting into shape.”
Michael Schafer hit 4-of-7 three’s and scored 16 points. Dylan Schroeder and Riley Story added 15 points each.
Sidney 46,
East Mills 35
