Windows To The World

Mills County Master Photographer John Scanlan has earned international acclaim for his award-winning work, depicting not only his artistic eye and ability, but the natural beauty of the dozens of countries he’s visited around the world over the past two decades. Now, the name he’s made for himself is about to become ever bigger.

Scanlan is one of three artists that will have his work showcased and marketed by the International Artist Management Group’s (IAMG)  Masters of Light - A Moving Art Gallery initiative. Scanlan, nature photographer Dennis Frates and award-winning cinematographer Louis Schwartzberg were selected for the program.
“The excitement and interest around ‘A Moving Art Gallery’ has been wonderful,” said IAMG  CEO Craig A. Fleming. “Selecting the first artists for the Masters of Light concept was a daunting task that included interviewing many qualified artists. John, Dennis and Louie represent the finest in their field and bring together 75-plus years of experience and artistic talent to the ‘Moving Art Gallery’ program.”
What the opportunity means for Scanlan and his wife, Debora, is more time behind the camera and less time spent advertising and marketing their work.
“These guys (IAMG)‚ are kind of like the ‘Dream Team’ of the art world,” Scanlan said. “It’s kind of fun just thinking about the possibilities.”
The Scanlans say the Moving Art Gallery concept will provide endless new opportunities to promote “Scanlan - Windows To The World” photographs. Their work will be featured on several calendars, at popular cruise ship auctions, and the photographers selected for the Moving Art Gallery project will be the focus of special programming being produced for the Learning Channel and Discovery television channels.
“This is very exciting for us,” Scanlan said. “Deb and I, we just want to be the photographers again.”
As they have done for the past 12 years, the Scanlans will showcase their latest work this weekend during a holiday season open house at their Mills County gallery, located at 52399 230th St., southwest of Mineola.
    Open house hours are Friday, Dec. 10, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 11, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 12, from noon to 5 p.m.
