Swimmers ready to make a splash

Glenwood’s $5 million outdoor aquatic center, located adjacent to the auxiliary gymnasium at Glenwood Community High School, will open to the public following a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday afternoon, July 8.

Mary Gunderson, a longtime advocate for the outdoor swimming pool project, said the dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m.

The pool will open around 1 p.m.

“It’s exciting,” Gunderson said. “The construction phase of the project has gone very well. We’re  opening a week later than we had hoped to, but for a project of this size, that’s not bad.”

Water was added to the pool last week and will be treated and monitored in the coming days for proper chemical balance.
Over the next week, Gunderson and others will be stocking the concession stand, hanging up shower curtains and setting up outdoor furniture.

Last night (Tuesday), the Glenwood City Council was expected to approve operation hours and swimming pass rates for the abbreviated 2016 swimming season.
