Rams split at Denison tourney

Glenwood’s Allison Koontz picked up the win in the circle and went 4-for-4 at the plate in the Rams’ 8-1 win over Greene County Saturday in Denison.
The Glenwood softball team split a pair of games at the Denison Softball Invitational Saturday.
The Rams (11-7 overall, 6-4 in the conference) lost 6-4 to Sergeant Bluff-Luton in the opener but came back to defeat Greene County 8-1 in the capper.
Glenwood scored a run in each of the first four innings against Sergeant Bluff-Luton and led 4-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth but the Warriors would not go away. They scored three runs in bottom of the fourth and two more in the sixth to complete the rally.
Brynn Schrock took the tough-luck loss in the circle. Schrock scattered five hits and two earned runs. Three of the Warriors five runs were aided by five Glenwood fielding errors.
“We’re a young team,” said Glenwood coach Ryan Koch. “When you’re young, you’re going to see mistakes like that against better teams. We’ll get more confident.”
The Rams would have no such trouble with Greene County – thanks largely to the two-way play of Allison Koontz. The sophomore struck out eight and allowed one hit in the complete-game victory in the circle while going 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.
“Koontz pitched a great game and it helped out hitting came alive,” Koch said of the bounce back victory.
Sara Kolle and Faith Weber each had four hits in the two games combined.
Creston 5,
Glenwood 1
In a rematch of game played two days earlier, Creston once again had the upper hand in a 5-1 victory over Glenwood.
“We led 1-0 like we did the other night and they came back and got all their runs later again,” said Glenwood coach Ryan Koch. “I didn’t do a good job adjusting that second and third time through their lineup. I have to do a better job preparing our pitchers and giving different looks.”
Taryn Fredrickson struck out 11 and scattered three hits in the complete game victory for the Panthers.
Allison Koontz pitched all seven innings for the Rams, allowing five hits and three earned runs while striking out five. She also helped her own cause at the plate with a solo home run.

Coen earned the win in the circle after striking out three and no walking a batter in four innings of work.
Allison Koontz took the loss after scattering five hits and three earned runs while fanning five.
Mila Kuhns went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs to lead Creston at the plate.
Koontz led the Rams with two hits. Brynn Schrock doubled and scored a run.
Glenwood sweeps
Cyclones
A pair of dynamite pitching performances by Koontz and Brynn Schrock carried Glenwood to a sweep of Harlan in Hawkeye 10 Conference softball last Monday.
Allison Koontz fanned 14 and allowed five hits in a complete-game, 3-0 victory in game one and Schrock struck out 13 in a 4-0, game two shutout victory.
“They both were great,” said Glenwood coach Ryan Koch. “They both had good stuff and our defense behind them was probably as good as we’ve played all year. Just two really great performances.”
The Rams combined for 10 hits in the two wins but they were opportunistic on the base path, stealing seven bases and taking advantage of four Cyclones errors.
Koontz helped her own cause with a game-two solo home runs. Audrey Albers had two hits and Sara Kolle and Faith Weber each singled and drove in a run.
