Rams fall in OT at Nebraska Prep Classic

Glenwood’s Adam Severn was one of four Rams to score in double-figures in the win over Red Oak.

Glenwood erased an 11-point fourth quarter deficit to force overtime but couldn’t pull out a victory, falling to Freeman (Neb.) 59-57 in the Nebraska Prep Classic on Saturday at D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha.
The Rams found themselves down 45-34 before outscoring the Falcons 17-6 in a furious fourth quarter comeback to force the extra frame. But Freeman would make one more play down the stretch to out the thrilling victory.
Ayden Gibson led Glenwood with 18 points and Kayden Anderson scored 17.

Glenwood 80,
Red Oak 43
Glenwood scored a season-high in points while holding Red Oak to a season-low in scoring in an 80-43 victory for the Rams in a Hawkeye 10 Conference Road tilt Friday in Red Oak.

The Rams (8-4 overall, 8-2 in the conference) got off to a quick start on both ends of the court, jumping out to a 13-2 lead while forcing six turnovers and limiting the Tigers to 1-of-10 shooting the first six minutes.

Glenwood maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second quarter and led by as many as 19 before going into halftime ahead 38-21.

“I thought we were really focused tonight,” said Glenwood coach Curt Schulte after the game. “I thought we played really well on both ends of the floor. We got to the free throw line. We attacked the basket well. I think we were 16-for-21 from the free throw line so that was really good to see.”

The Tigers came out of halftime attacking the basket and made a brief 4-0 run to cut the Rams’ lead to 14 points, but they would get no closer the rest of the way.

All game long the Rams’ defense made things difficult on the Tigers’ Max DeVries, the conference’s leading scorer. The senior wing scored 23 points, but he was limited to 4-of-20 shooting, including 0-of-9 from three. Most of DeVries’ damage came at the free throw line where he was 15-of-19.

Schulte was quick to praise the group defensive effort of Peyton Longmeier, Jack Johnson, Kayden Anderson and Drew Schroeder on DeVries, the conference’s leading scorer.

“We just really mixed things up and I thought they did a fantastic job defensively,” he said. “They communicated really well, and they locked him down.”

The Tigers shot 19.7 percent from the field for the game – 12-of-61 – including 1-of-26 from behind the arc. Red Oak coach Ron DeVries said his team never found their rhythm.

The win was the Rams’ fourth straight.

Kayden Anderson led four Rams in double-figures with 18 points. Casey Godbout added 13 and Adam Severn and Ayden Gibson chipped in 11 points each.

Hunter Gilleland added 10 points for the Tigers.

Glenwood 75,
C.B. St. Albert 46

Playing for the first time in 10 days, the Glenwood boys overcame some sloppy play in a 75-46 victory over Council Bluffs St. Albert last Tuesday.

The Rams jumped out to a 15-8 first quarter lead and then extended that lead to 38-20 at the half. The Falcons never got within a dozen the rest of the way.

Jack Johnson paced a balanced Ram effort with 15 points. Ayden Gibson scored 11 points and Nolan Mount added 10.

Owen Marshall put in 12 points for the Falcons.
