Knights wins Co-ed Tiger Relays


Fremont-MIlls’ Teagan Ewalt helps the Knights to a gold medal in the sprint medley relay at last week’s co-ed meet in Tabor.

The Fremont-Mills girls won seven events and captured the team title at the Griswold Tiger Co-ed Relays Thursday.

The Knights finished with 140 points to edged runner-up Nodaway Valley’s 122 points. The East Mills girls finished ninth with 52 points.

On the boys’ side, Underwood got by Riverside 140-112 in the team scores. The East Mills boys were fifth with 59 points and the Fremont-Mills boys were seventh with 45.

Fremont-Mills’ girls’ squad were dominant in the relays at Griswold, winning the 4x400-meter, 4x800, sprint medley and shuttle hurdle relays.

The Knights’ Teagan Ewalt (400-meter dash) and Hannah Wilson (800-meters and 400-meter hurdles) each took home individual gold medals.

Emily Williams won a gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles to lead the East Mills girls. The Wolverines added a top finish in the distance medley relay.

East Mills didn’t win an event but got second place finishes from Zach Thornburg in the 100-meters, Caleb Urban in the 800-meters and the shuttle hurdle relay.

The Fremont-Mills boys were led by Jordan McLaughlin’s second place finish in the high jump.

Wolverine boys, Knight girls with Fremont-Mills Co-ed Invite

The East Mills boys won six events to win the boys title and the host Fremont-Mills girls captured 14 top finishes to win the team titles at the Fremont-Mills Co-ed Invitational last Tuesday in Tabor.

East Mills topped the field with 143, out-pacing Fremont-Mills’ runner=up finish with 117 points. The Knight girls lapped the competition with 201 points. The East Mills girls were second with 100 points.

East Mills boys coach Claude Lang called his team’s performance their best this season.

“Our sprinter depth really stood out as we were able to place high in all running events, and win almost every relay,” Lang said.

Davis McGrew had a hand in three gold medals to lead the Wolverine boys. The junior won the 400-meters and 400-meter hurdles and ran a leg on the champion 4x400-meter relay.

East Mills had a strong day in the relays, winning the 4x100-meter, 4x200-meter, 4x400-meter and shuttle hurdle relays.

Zach Thornburg and Mason Crouse ran on a trio of those gold medal winning relays  (4x100, 4x200 and sprint medley relays.

Fremont-Mills’ Cooper Marvel scooped up two gold medals, winning the shot put and the discus and Landon Baker added a gold medal in the long jump.  

The Fremont-Mills girls dominated the meet, winning 14 of 18 events including six of the seven relays.

Hannah Wilson and Emily Madison each notched four gold medals at the meet.

Wilson won the 800-meters, 1500-meter and 3000-meters and running a leg of the gold medal inning 4x400-meter relay.

Emily Madison won the high jump and 400-meter hurdles and as a part of the top finishing shuttle hurdle and 4x200-meter relays.

Fremont-Mills coach Kyle Fichter was proud of how both his girls and boys teams performed in their first home meet of the season.

“The boys and girls continue to compete well each meet,” Fichter said. “We are rounding into shape for the conference and district meets. The young kids have all really stepped up for both the boys and girls.”

The Wolverine girls placed first or second in nine events.

“It was great to score 100 points,” Lang said. “It has been a while since we’ve done that.”

Emily Williams grabbed East Mills’ two gold medals, the 100-meters and the 100-meter hurdles.

Aspen Crouse added two runner-up finishes in the 800-meters, 1,500-meters and as a part of the .

The Glenwood girls and boys junior varsity squad captured one gold medal each and placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

The girls 4x100meter relay team of Addison Fichter, Courtney Crawford, Taylor Roenfeldt and Maddie Stratton placed first with a time of 54.03. The boys distance medley relay team of Drew Schroeder, Christian Eiseman, Scott Reed and Bryce Keller won gold with a time of 3:59.88.
