Glewood 5-1 at Indianola tourney

Playing its final weekend tournament of the season, the Glenwood volleyball team went 5-1 at the Indianola Invitational Saturday.

The Class 4A, No. 7 Rams (33-6 overall, 8-1 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) defeated Urbandale 21-9, 21-10, Fort Dodge 21-10, 21-10, Cedar Rapids Kennedy 21-13, 21-8, Ballard 21-16, 21-19. Their lone loss came to host Indianola, 21-12, 21-15.

The Rams’ struggled offensively in its match up with the Class 5A, No. 5 ranked Indians (32-4). Their negative .024 hitting efficiency and 12 kills were season lows. Charley Hernandez led the way with five kills.

Charley Hernandez and Kaylee Wray combined for 20 kills for Glenwood in a 25-14, 25-11, 25-14 sweep of Denison Thursday in Hawkeye 10 Conference volleyball.

The Rams had a strong offensive showing on the night with four hitters notching at least six kills.

Wray led the way with 11 kills and Hernandez added nine. Ilsa Kemling and Olivia Hanover had six kills each.

Alli Koontz keyed the Ram offense with 28 set assists and seven aces.

Gaby Cardenas led Denison with seven kills.

Rams sweep

The Glenwood volleyball team picked up road sweep in a Hawkeye 10 Conference triangular last Tuesday in Council Bluffs.

The Rams knocked off Harlan 25-17, 25-17, 25-16 and the host Saintes 25-14, 25-19, 25-14.

Kaylee Wray led Glenwood with 25 kills on the night. Charley Hernandez smacked down 18 kills and added 21 digs and eight ace serves.

Ilsa Kemling notched 21 kills.

Allison Koontz paced the offense with 29 set assists.
