Glenwood sweeps at Hawkeye-10 southern division track meet
SHENANDOAH - The Glenwood boys and girls ran away with the team titles at the Hawkeye 10 Conference Southern Division Meet in Shenandoah Thursday.
The Ram girls won nine events to rack up 193 points while the boys won top honors in nine events of their own while tallying 179 points to top the field.
Winning individual golds for the girls were Danika Arnold (200-meters), Grace Berglun (800 and 3,000-meters) and Abi Hiller (discus). The Rams’ added golds in the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400, 4x800 and distance medley relays.
Allison Koontz (100) and Lauren Hughes (400 and 1,500), Courtney Crawford (100-meter hurdles), and Megan Hughes (400-hurdles) all picked up second place medals.
Glenwood girls coach Jordan Bueltel thought his team took advantage of a beautiful weather night to put together a strong first outdoor meet.
“Overall, I was really impressed with the entire group,” he said. “We now have an idea of where we are and now we can work on improving the rest of the way.”
Events that stuck out to Bueltel include his 4x100-meter relay which ran a 50.50 or just barely behind the fastest time that group ran at any point last season. The sprint medley relay also ran its fastest time in two seasons.
“I can’t say enough about how well the entire team did and how excited we are about where we currently are, now the fun part is putting in the work and seeing how much better we can get,” he said.
On the boys side, the Rams got a first place finish from Bryant Keller (3,200) and a near sweep of the field events with Chase Razor (high jump), Tristan Ludwig (long jump) and Reagan Skarnulis (shot put) all topping the field.
The Rams’ 4x100, 4x200, 4x400, 4x800 and distance medley relays placed first.
Keller (800), Aaden Lopez (110-meter hurdles), and Maverick Mixan (400-meter hurdles) finished in second place.
