Glenwood second at own Ram Relays

Megan Hughes takes the baton handoff from Erin Dougherty in the 4x200-meter relay in Treynor last week.
Council Bluffs Lewis Central edged Glenwood for the team title at the weather-shortened Girls Ram Relays at the Glenwood Activities Complex Thursday.
The Titans tallied 92 points to the Rams’ 85 on night severe weather cancelled a handful of events. In all, Glenwood won three events: the 4x200, 4x800 and shuttle hurdle relays.
“I was really impressed with a lot of our younger girls as they set all sort of season’s best times for them, which is really encouraging heading into the end of the season,” said Glenwood coach Jordan Bueltel.
Bueltel said the highlight of the evening was his 4x800-meter relay team going under 10:00 for the first time in his coaching tenure in Glenwood.
“They have hit 10 flat several time in the last few year but finally go over that hurdle and am excited to see how much lower they can go,” the coach said.
The 4x200 quartet of Erin Dougherty, Megan Hughes, Brooklyn Schultz and Allison Koontz ran a 1:45.50 to top the field. Hughes joined Kasey Hilsabeck, Rylie Russmann and Courtney Crawford on the gold medal winning shuttle hurdle relay that shaved 1.5 seconds off its best time this year.
“That was something they had been working towards all season,” Bueltel said.
Hughes also had a big PR in the 400-meter hurdles.
“Overall the girls are really hitting their stride and we are pumped up to see just how fast they can get in the next few weeks,” Bueltel said.
Madelyn Berglund, Caitlyn Hebel, Grace Berglund and Breckyn Petersen combined for a 9:56.84 to win the 4x800-meter relay.
Abi Hiller captured a second place medal in the discus and Olivia Wright (200-meters), Haylee Hughes (800) and the sprint medley relay team added third place medals.

Knights third,
Rams fifth at Treynor
Fremont-Mills was third and Glenwood fifth at the Cardinals Girls Relays in Treynor last Monday.
The host Cardinals won the meet with 132 points to edge the runners-up from Council Bluffs Lewis Central’s 127.5 points. The Knights finished with 81 points. Glenwood tallied 75 points, one point back of fourth place Underwood.
Fremont-Mills got gold medal performances from Lana Alley in the 100-meters, Carlie Chambers in the high jump and the 4x100-meter relay quartet of Reese Gute, Bella Gute, Chambers and Alley.
The Rams had a strong day in its relays, winning gold in the sprint medley, 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800-meter events.
Running what he called a “half lineup,” Glenwood coach Jordan Bueltel said he wanted to give some of his girls the night off and give others a shot at expanded varsity roles.
“It really gives some other girls a chance to step into a varsity lineup and compete with some really good talent from the area,” Bueltel said. “Our 4x2 is something we really think is one of our better events and I was really impressed with how they ran even in this weather.”
Bueltel also praised his shuttle hurdle relay, which ran its best time of the year.
“It was nice to go under 1:10 for the first time this season,” he said. “We really leaned on our relays last night as I think that will be a strength of our team this year and ended up winning four and setting a season’s best in another. Excited to give everyone a few days off to recover and get back at it at our home meet.”
