Glenwood has strong showing at Atlantic

Glenwood’s Grace Berglund ran a 19:23 to place second at the Atlantic Invitational Cross Country Meet.
The Glenwood girls placed fourth and the boys were 15th at the Atlantic Invitational Cross Country Meet at the Nishna Hills Golf Course in Atlantic Thursday.
The Lincoln Pius X girls and boys team swept the team titles at the meet that featured 19 teams. The trio of Joe Majerus, David Krier and Lucas Schlautman secured the top three spots in the boys raced to lead the Thunderbolts to the championship with 26 points. Riverside was second with 73 points.
Lili Denton of Council Bluffs St. Albert won the girls race with a time of 18:34. The Pius X girls won the girls team title with a score of 43, 37 points better than Treynor.
The Glenwood girls tallied 106 points.
“It was definitely a stacked field last night,” said Glenwood girls coach Marissa Klindt of the girls field at Atlantic. “We actually felt that we were a little off last night. We had several great individual races, but we’re not quite where we want to be team-wise.”
The Rams’ Grace Berglund ran a 19:23 to finish second to Denton in the girls race.
Caitlin Hebel finished 13th, Megan Hughes 22nd, Katelyn Harms 38th, and Bree Houser 45th to complete the Rams’ scoring.
“Grace ran an incredible race on what is probably one of the tougher courses in the conference,” Klindt said. “Caitlin Hebel and Megan Hughes looked really strong for us which bodes well for the next few weeks.”
Among the 23 different schools competing at Atlantic on the boys side, including Nebraska’s top ranked team in Lincoln Pius X, Class 1A No. 2 Riverside and Class 2A, No. 6 Red Oak also ran.
Bryce Keller led the Glenwood boys with a 51st place time of 19:24.
Jaxton Long added a 58th place finish, Cole Berglund was 59th, Lucas Harms was 69th and Grant Sorensen 79th for the Glenwood boys.
“The spread of the team between our one to five runners was the smallest of any team there,” said Glenwood boys coach Todd Peverill. “We are very young and still learning how to compete at the high school level.”
