Glenwood grapplers third at Dan Hill invite

Glenwood placed third in the team standings at Saturday’s Dan Hill Invitational Wrestling Tournament in Harlan.

Logan Magnolia won the team title with 248 points to Winterset’s runner up score of 222. The Rams tallied 166.5 points for third.

Glenwood’s Mason Koehler and Drake Buthe both captured titles in Harlan.

“We definitely saw some improvement from the duals Thursday (in Riverside),” said Glenwood coach Tucker Weber. “That’s always good to see.”

The 215-pound Koehler pinned both of his opponents in the first period to win his bracket. He needed just :55 to earn a fall over Logan Magnolia’s Carson Edney in the finals.

“He got a bye to the semifinals, and he had maybe two minutes of mat time and didn’t get pushed a whole lot, but we wrestled well,” Weber said.

In the heavyweight finals, Buthe pinned West Central Valley’s Zach Teague in 1:26.

“Drake was in the same boat as Mason,” Weber said. “He pinned all his opponents in the first period. Those weights weren’t the toughest up there. But you can only wrestle who is out in front of you.”

Brody Black finished second after dropping a 7-0 decision to Logan Magnolia’s Crosby Yoder in the 113 pounds finals.

The Rams’ added third place finishes from Bart Mower (144 pounds) and Jacob Aust (190).

Rams wrestlers
drop two at Riverside

The Glenwood wrestling team opened its season in a triangular at Riverside Thursday.

The Rams dropped duals to the host Bulldogs 46-32 and to Underwood 40-26.

“I don’t think we wrestled to our potential,” said Glenwood coach Tucker Weber said. “We had a lot of young kids in the lineup and for a lot of them it was their first varsity experience, and it showed. We have to get better at fighting off our backs and through different positions and we’ll adjust as the year goes on.”

Brody Black (113 pounds), Reese Fauble (157), Mason Koehler (215) and Drake Buthe (285) went a perfect 2-0 on the night.
