Glenwood boys 4-1 at McGivern/Blenderman dual tourney

After a two-week hiatus, the Glenwood wrestling returned to the mat Saturday.

The Rams had five wrestlers finish 5-0 and they finished second as a team with a 4-1 record at the McGivern/Blenderman Duals at Des Moines Lincoln. They picked-up wins over Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln 35-34, Marshalltown 52-23, Sioux City East 56-16 and Des Moines

Lincoln 63-12. The lone loss came to Class 3A, No. 7 ranked Carlisle.

“It feels like forever since we wrestled so you have stay positive and learn to control the controllables,” said Glenwood coach Tucker Weber. Before Saturday’s meet, the Rams were last in action Jan. 6.

“It was just nice to be back out there,” Weber added.

Glenwood’s Brody Black (106 pounds), Vinny Mayberry (120), Matt Beem (132), Mason Koehler (215), and Trent Patton (285) all notched perfect records on the day.

With the injury bug hitting the team early in January, the time off may have actually benefited the Rams. They wrestled with a full squad is Des Moines.

“The kids wrestled well,” Weber said. “It was good to have our full team back. We wrestled a couple solid teams.”

Against Abraham Lincoln the Rams got down 34-12 before winning six matches in a row. They trailed by two going into the final match when Black got a takedown in overtime against the Lynx’s Braydon Tranmer to pick up a 4-2 win and secure the dual victory.

“That was a pretty electric match,” Weber said. “It was a highlight point for Brody.”

Against Carlisle, and their seven individually ranked wrestlers, the Rams battled but came up short.

“They have a real solid team,” Weber said. “We gave them a run for their money but couple things didn’t go our way. We have time to fix those things.”
