Glenwood’s season comes to an end in regional semifinals

Glenwood’s Audrey Albers slides in safely at home in the Rams’ 14-7 win over Denison in the opening round of postseason softball.
Tess Jones allowed just two hits and struck out 11 for Dallas Center Grimes in an 8-0 win over Glenwood in the Class 4A, Region 2 softball semifinals in Grimes Saturday night.
The No. 2 ranked Mustangs (32-7) pushed two runs across in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to pull away from the Rams.
Jones was dominant at times in the circle, allowing a single and a double and walking just two in the complete game victory.
Allison Koontz doubled for the Rams and took the loss in the circle. The senior scattered 13 hits and seven earned runs while fanning two.
Audrey Albers singled for the Rams’ other hit.
Glenwood closes its season with a record of 15-19 overall, including a 12-8 mark in the Hawkeye 10 Conference.
“It’s always tough for a season to come to an end, especially for our two seniors that have poured so much into the program and sport in their time,” said Glenwood coach Ellie Roenfeld of seniors Allison Koontz and McKenna Wilkes. “Koontz pitched great last night, and girls had a strong defense with big plays to back her up all night. We showed discipline at the plate and made her work.”
Roenfeld said she couldn’t thank her two seniors enough for guiding this team this year.
“Koontz and Wilkes worked hard all season to uplift this team and those with little varsity experience,” Roenfeld said. “Wilkes was a quiet leader who made an impact every inning all year. Koontz fighting an injury all year while still putting up good numbers shows her fight and passion for the sport.”
