Glenwood’s Chase qualifies for state swimming meet

Glenwood’s Patrick Chase qualified for three events at this week’s state swimming meet as a part of the Council Bluffs Lewis Central swim team.

Glenwood’s Patrick Chase qualified in three events for the state swim meet at the district swim meet at Southeast Polk on Saturday.

Chase, a junior who swims for the Council Bluffs Lewis Central co-op team, placed 17th in the 100-meter freestyle, 17th in the 400-meter freestyle relay, and 19th in the 200-meter freestyle to earn state bids in each event.

Longtime Lewis Central coach Bruce Schomburg called Chase a “sprinter” and the Titans’ top competitor in multiple events.

“He’s a pretty talented kid,” the coach said. “He’s come a long way in a couple years and we move him around a little bit.”

Chase’s mother, Leslie, also swam for Schomburg at Lewis Central.

“He’s really improved, especially for never swimming other than recreational swimming until he got into high school,” Schomburg said of Chase, who has been a part of the team since his freshman year.”

The Iowa State Swim Meet runs Feb. 11-12 at the University of Iowa’s Campus Recreation & Wellness Center in Iowa City.
