Connor Wear of Glenwood defeated Milad Ibraheem of Clarke by a 5-4 decision at the district wrestling tournament.

Glenwood’s Nile Lundvall posted an 8-1 decision over Harlan’s Jaden Stephens in their 165-pound quarterfinal match.

Glenwood’s Jaxon Erickson battles Red Oak’s Carson Van Scoy in their 144-pound district quarterfinal match.
Glenwood will have four wrestlers competing in this week’s Iowa State Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines.
Brody Black, Reese Fauble, Jacob Aust and Mason Koehler punched their tickets to the state tournament at Saturday’s Class 2A District 6 Tournament at Glenwood Community High School.
The top two finishers in each weight class at district advanced to the state tournament. Black was the runner-up at 113 pounds, while Fauble (157), Aust (175) and Koehler (215) each won their respective weight classes.
Winterset finished the day at the top of the District 6 Tournament standings with 236.5 points and nine qualifiers for the state tournament. Atlantic was the runner-up with 185 points and six state qualifiers, while Glenwood landed in third place with 140.5 points.
Glenwood Coach Tucker Weber said he was pleased with his team’s overall performance at the tournament.
“We got four through, two more than the projected seeds, so that’s always good to see kids wrestle above their seeds,” he said. “I always tell them the seed is just a number, a number on the bracket. Everybody is 0-0 when it gets to the postseason, you have to be ready to compete every single time.”
Weber offered individual praise for the Rams’ four state qualifers.
“Reese Fauble, he’s been dealing with a couple things the last few weeks with his body and hadn’t been on the mat for a few weeks and he came out and got a first place bracket for us,” Weber said. “Jacob Aust, he’s a guy that cut down a weight class and ended up beating a couple solid kids that were seeded ahead of him, Mason Koehler did his thing at 215 and Brody Black, our 113-pounder, wrestled pretty well himself.”
Koehler will enter the state tournament as the top-ranked wrestler in his weight class. As one of the top 8 seeds in the state, he earns a bye in the opening round of competition.
“He’s ranked No. 1 in the state – he’s got the No. 1 seed there,” Weber noted. “We’re looking for some big things from him.”
Weber added that three of Glenwood’s state qualifiers are making return trips to Des Moines.
“Three of them have been there before and Jacob Aust punched his ticket for the first time,” he said.
The four-day Iowa State Wrestling Tournament begins Wednesday at Wells Fargo Arena.
The opening round for Class 2A begins at 6 p.m.
Black will take on Eli Ollinger of Vinton-Shellsburg in the first round, while Fauble goes up against Logan Dunn of Sergeant Bluff-Luton and Aust faces Tayten Rummel of Algona. After his bye in the opening round, Koehler will be paired against the winner of a match between
Troy Kupka of Benton Community School District and Jesse Brouwer of Aplington-Parkersburg.
