F-M splits pair at home tourney

Fremont-Mills split a pair of games at its own Knights Softball Invitational on Saturday in Tabor.
The Knights (12-10 overall, 7-2 in the conference) fell 8-6 to Southwest Valley in the opener and then topped Tri-Center 6-4 in the tournament capper.
Seven fielding errors led to all eight of the Timberwolves’ runs in the game one loss.
Lily Crom paced the Knights with three hits, and two RBIs and Saige Mitchell was the losing pitcher after allowing eight hits and striking out three.
In game two, Saige Mitchell tossed a complete game, scattering seven hits and no earned runs while fanning five. She also helped her own cause with a 3-for-3 night at the plate.
Tigers top Knights
in Corner title game
Griswold picked up its third victory of the season over Fremont-Mills and the Corner Conference Softball Tournament championship in an 8-2 victory Friday in Tabor.
The Tigers’ Karly Millikan again had the Knights’ number in the circle. The junior scattered seven hits – all singles – and struck out 11 in her third victory of the season over F-M.
Marissa Askeland and Whitney Pennock each had three hits and scored two runs. Makenna Askeland had two hits, including a home run and drove in four runs.
Lily Crom led the Knights with two hits. Ella Thornton, Macy Mitchell, Amanda Morgan, Saige Mitchell and Kinley Blackburn each added hits.
Saige Mitchell was credited with the loss after going the distance and allowing 12 hits and eight earned runs while fanning three.
Stanton 5,
East Mills 1
Stanton rallied with four runs in the top of the seventh inning to down East Mills 5-1 in the Corner Conference Softball Tournament opening round Thursday.
The Wolverines (5-12 overall, 4-4 in the conference) notched eight hits off Stanton starter Bree Mitchell but just one went for extra-bases. Mitchell fanned five and walked three to earn the victory.
Cloe Brown had two hits and Miah Urban, Brooke Jones, Kuley Barrett, Jenna Thornburg, Aspen Crouse and Addy Goy each added hits.
Miah Urban took the loss in the circle after scattering seven hits and five earned runs while striking out five.
Fremont-Mills 7,
Essex 5
Lana Alley and Macy Mitchell each drove in two runs to help Fremont-Mills to a 7-5 win over Essex in the opening round of the Corner Conference Softball Tournament Thursday.
Alley singled twice and scored two runs and Mitchell doubled to drive in her two runs.
Ella Thornton added two hits and an RBI.
Saige Mitchell surrendered 10 hits and four earns runs while striking out six to earn the win in the circle.
Brianne Johnson had two hits and four RBIs to lead Essex.
Stanton 10,
East Mills 0
Stanton used a six run third inning to pull away from East Mills in a 10-0, five inning victory last Monday.
Elly McDonald doubled drove in a run and Lexi Frank singled and drove in three.
Kiela Franzen pitched five innings and allowed two hits to earn the win.
Brooke Jones and Cloe Brown each notched a hit for East Mills.
Lenox 12,
Fremont-Mills 5
Zoey Reed and Danielle Robinson combined to drive in five runs on their five hits to lead Lenox to a 12-5 victory over Fremont-Mills in Corner Conference baseball last Wednesday.
Robinson had three hits and drove in three runs to lead the Tigers’ 14-hit attack. Reed had two hits and drove in two runs.
The Knights were paced by Ella Thornton’s 3-for-4 night. She also drove in two runs and scored twice.
Macy Mitchell and Kinley Blackburn each added a pair of hits.
Cadence Douglas notched the complete-game win in the circle. The senior allowed eight hits and four earned runs while fanning three.
Saige Mitchell took the loss for the Knights after allowing 14 hits and nine earned runs.
Griswold 13,
Fremont-Mills 1
Karly Millikan held Fremont-Mills to just two hits and Griswold smacked 12 hits in a 13-1 victory in Corner Conference softball last Tuesday.
Millikan fanned six and walked one in the four-inning victory.
Ella Thornton and Macy Mitchell each singled for the Knights’ hits.
Marissa Askeland had three hits and drove in three runs to lead Griswold at the plate.
