Bedford shuts out East Mills for Corner tournament title


Fremont-Mills’ Rowen Howe struck out a season-high 12 and scattered five hits to pick up the win for the Knights in the Corner Conference Baseball Tournament semifnals over Griswold.

Bedford picked up its second straight shutout victory and its first Corner Conference Baseball Tournament title with a 10-0 win over East Mills Friday in Sidney.

The Bulldogs (19-5 overall, 11-0 in the conference) got a gem of pitching performance from Tim Rogers in the win. The senior struck out 12, scattered just two hits and walked three in the complete-game victory.

Garrison Motsinger, Quentin Dalton and Rogers had a hit each for Bedford. Rogers and Motsinger each drove in runs.

Bedford was helped by three East Mills fielding miscues that lead to seven unearned runs.

Sheldon Vandenberg took the loss on the mound. The senior gave up one hit and three earned runs while fanning three.

Ryan Sayers and Cooper Hagen notched singles for East Mills.

Bedford 14,
Fremont-Mills 0

Klemit Olney allowed just one hit for Bedford in a 14-0 shutout victory over Fremont-Mills in the Corner Conference Baseball Tournament semifinals Thursday.

Olney was masterful on the mound, striking out nine and walking none in the 61-pitch, five inning complete game.

Graham Godsey and John Deemer had two hits each for the Bulldogs. Godsey drove in two runs and Ashton Nally homered and drove in three runs.  

Landon Baker took the loss on the mound. The senior gave up two hits and nine walks to go with seven earned runs in two innings.

Carter Rycroft, Broden Zimmerman and Rhett Lemonds had a hit each for the Knights.

East Mills 4,
Stanton 3

Fletcher Proctor’s two-run, walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh lifted East Mills to a 4-3 victory over Stanton in the Corner Conference Baseball Tournament semifinals Thursday in Sidney.

Proctor finished his night 2-for-3 with a double.

Jackson Embree added a 3-for-3 night at the plate for the Wolverines.

Ryan Sayers tossed a complete game for the win. The senior scattered eight hits and one earned run while striking out six.

Gavin Ford was credited with the loss after allowing five hits and four runs – none earned – with nine strikeouts.

Jacob Martin, Nolan Case and Devon Taylor had two hits each for the Vikings.

Stanton 12,
Sidney 6

Stanton jumped out to an 8-0 lead in a 12-6 win over Sidney in the opening round of the Corner Conference Baseball Tournament Thursday in Sidney.

The Vikings collected 14 hits in the win with Max Yeager leading the way with three hits and five RBIs.

Jacob Martin, Gavin Ford, Owen March, Tristan Ellwood and Jayden Burke each notched two hits apiece.

Ellwood picked up the win on the bump after scattering three hits and three earned runs with five strikeouts.

Michael Hensley was credited with the loss. The senior scattered five hits and three earned runs.

Fremont-Mills 18,
Griswold 11

Fremont-Mills plated seven runs in the first inning and seen more in the seventh to knockoff Griswold 18-11 in a wild, Corner Conference Baseball Tournament opener Thursday in Tabor.

The Knights (6-10 overall, 4-5 in the conference) smacked just two hits but took advantage of four walks and a pair of errors to get off to their quick start. Their lead swelled to 11-1 before the Vikings (8-8 overall, 5-4 in the conference) scored 10 runs over the final three innings.

Colin Morse was 3-for-4 at the plate with five RBIs and Sam Sanchez and Broden Zimmerman added two hits and drove in two runs each for the Knights.

Rowen Hower started on the mound and was credited with the victory after allowing five hits and four runs while striking out a season-high 12.

Wyatt Silk and Zane Johnson had two hits each for the Vikings. Silk drove in three runs and Johnson two.

Kolbe Klindt started and allowed one hit and walked three to take the loss in 1/3 of an inning of work.

Hamburg 18,
Essex 9

Parker Myers had three hits and Noah Kimpel two for Hamburg in an 18-9 win over Essex in Corner Conference baseball last Wednesday.

Jay Rodriguez did not allow a hit and struck out seven to earn the win on the mound for Hamburg.

Brody Kirchert and Hayven Johnson had one hit each for Essex.

Bedford 13,
East Mills 1

Bedford pushed 11 runs across in the fourth inning in a 13-1 win over East Mills in Corner Conference baseball last Tuesday.

The Bulldogs collected nine hits at the place and Brody King tossed a two-hit, six strikeout complete-game in the win on the mound.

Garrison Motsinger, Tim Rogers, Klemit Olney and Marcus Knights had two hits each to lead Bedford. Motsinger tripled and drove in two runs and Rogers drove in two runs and scored two runs.

Cooper Hagen took the loss on the mound after allowing five hits and seven earned runs in three innings of work.

Sheldon Vandenberg and Caleb Urban notched the hits for East Mills.
