A.L. rallies in win over Glenwood

Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln scored three runs in each of the final two innings to break a 6-6 tie and down Glenwood 12-6 in Hawkeye 10 Conference baseball Friday at A.C. Nuckolls Field.    

The Lynx roughed up a trio of Ram hurlers for 10 hits. Brody Taylor look the loss on the hill for Glenwood after allowing five hits and four earned runs in two innings of relief.

“We started out pretty good, playing them neck and neck and we kind of ran out of pitching I think,” said Glenwood coach Kurt Schultz. “We had a lot of people playing in different positions they don’t normally play in, and it caused us some confusion on defense. They hit the ball pretty well but we made some mistakes on defense.”

Zach Lincoln had three hits and Aidan Martin two hits and two runs driven in to lead A.L.

Glenwood finished with 12 hits. Evan Soergel, Nolan Allmon and Briten Maxwell had two hits each.

Andy Fichter came out of the bullpen to throw three strong innings of relief innings to earn the win. He allowed four hits and one earned run.

Briten Maxwell had two hits and an RBI, and Nolan Allmon had a double and drove in two runs for Glenwood in the loss.

Glenwood drops to 11-9 overall and 10-6 in the conference.

Red Oak 6

Glenwood plated five runs in the top of the seventh to rally in a 9-6 victory over Red Oak Thursday.

The Rams led 4-0 through five shutout innings of strong pitching from Risto Lappala. But the Tigers took advantage of the Rams’ bullpen and some defensive fielding miscues to plate five runs in the bottom of the sixth to take 5-4 lead into the seventh and the eventual rally.

“We got up and let them back in the game,” said Glenwood coach Kurt Schultz. “We tried to use our pitchers as much as we could because we’re kind of short and we were trying to find the right ones to go in. We stepped up and we were able to get a few runs in that last inning. We hit it well.”

Trent Patton smacked a home run to lead a nine-hit Ram offensive attack.

Evan Soergel added two hits and drove in two runs and Nolan Allmon tripled to drive in three.

Lappala picked up the win on the hill. The senior scattered two hits and struck out five.

Adam Baier and AJ Schmid had two hits each to lead Red Oak. Schmid took the loss on the mound after allowing two hits and four earned runs.

Shenandoah 6

Glenwood dug out of a two-run deficit after an inning to down Shenandoah 8-6 in Hawkeye 10 Conference baseball last Tuesday.

“We were pretty flat coming out after Monday,” said Glenwood coach Kurt Schultz. “The first couple innings we weren’t sure if we wanted to be there or not and finally we started pecking away and put them away later in the game.”

JD Colpitts led the Rams with three hits and drove in two runs. Trent Patton and Risto Lappala had two hits each. Lappala, Briten Maxwell and Brody Taylor each drove in runs.

Nolan Allmon tossed four solid innings on the mound to earn the win. The junior scattered four hits and four earned runs while fanning five in four innings.

Camden Lorimor led Shenandoah with two hits and two RBIs.

Gage Herron took the loss on the hill after allowing five hits and walking five in four innings of work.

Red-hot Rams sweep Trojans

Glenwood smacked a combined 34 hits in a pair of victories over Atlantic in Hawkeye 10 Conference baseball last Monday.

The Rams notched 15 hits in a 14-0 game one win and then topped that with 19 hits in a 27-0, four-inning game two win.

“I didn’t realize they were struggling as much as they were,” said Glenwood coach Kurt Schultz said of a young Trojan squad. “They used a lot of pitchers and I think they’re searching to find somebody. Whoever they threw, we hit.”

Nolan Clark, Trent Patton and Risto Lappala all had big nights offensively for the Rams.    Clark went 9-for-11 at the plate in the two games and drove in two runs. Patton blasted a home run, two doubles and drove in seven runs in game one. In the nightcap, Lappala homered and doubled twice while driving in seven runs.

Ryan Turner tossed a three-hit, complete game shutout with 12 strikeouts for Glenwood in game one. Kayden Anderson picked up the game two victory after scattering three hits and striking out four.
