Sioux City East blanks Glenwood, 10-0
Class 4A, top 10 ranked Sioux City East shut out Glenwood 10-0 on Friday in four innings.
The Rams (15-4 overall, 9-1 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) struggled at the plate and in the field on Friday, amassing just two hits on offense – singles by Justin Fisher and Wyatt Schulz – and committing four errors on defense leading to four unearned runs.
Cob Baker took the loss for Glenwood allowing 10 hits and six earned runs in three innings of work.
Glenwood 13,
Clarinda 2
Glenwood plated six runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 13-2 victory over Clarinda on Thursday.
The Rams smacked 14 hits and stole nine bases in the win. Brady Wheeler homered and was 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Cob Baker and Connor Lewis each added two hits. Dru Little drove in four runs.
Wyatt Schulz started and earned the win after not allowing a hit and striking out two in two innings of work.
Rams split with Cyclones
Glenwood held on to its lead in the Hawkeye 10 Conference baseball standings after splitting a double header with Harlan last Tuesday.
After giving up five early runs to the Cyclones in game one, Glenwood couldn’t pull off the comeback in a 6-5 loss. In game two, Justin Fisher’s pitching gem lifted the Rams to a 2-0 shutout victory.
Tyler Jensen took the loss in game one going the whole way and allowing seven hits and three earned runs while fanning four. Jensen helped his own cause with a pair of hits. Brady Douma added three hits and Sam Jameson two.
Fisher was dominant in game two. The senior righty got a run from his offense in the top of the first and it was all he needed to move to 4-0 on the season. Fisher struck out three Cyclones, allowed just two hits (none after the fifth inning) in the complete-game win.
Both of the Rams’ runs were of the manufactured variety.
In the top of the first, Jensen led off the game with an infield hit, reached second via error and was moved to third base on Brady Wheeler’s sacrifice before scoring on a two-out double by Corey Bertini.
Glenwood added a run in the fifth when Fisher drew a walk and was sacrificed to second where he later scored on an error.
Glenwood 11,
Red Oak 0
Glenwood roughed up Red Oak pitchers for 15 hits in a 11-0 Hawkeye 10 Conference win last Monday.
Tyler Jensen, Mitch Bowden and Nolan Robinson each recorded two hits in the win. Jensen drove in three runs and both Brady Wheeler and Cob Baker doubled to drive in two runs each.
Zak Mumm scattered seven hits and struck out two in five innings of work to earn the win.
