School District In Process Of Replacing Administrator
The Glenwood Community School District will proceed with hiring an interim director of student services following the recent resignation of Joseph Giangreco.
Giangreco’s resignation was accepted by the board of education Sept. 9, just six days after he received his second ticket in 11 days for driving with a suspended license.
Glenwood Superintendent Devin Embray said the district posted for the director of student services position Sept. 12 and will begin looking immediately for an interim replacement for Giangreco.
“We have some people that are maybe interested so I’m hoping they’ll write a letter of interest and we’ll be able to get somebody on board in an interim setting sometime really soon,” he said.
With the timing of Giangreco’s resignation, hiring a permanent full-time replacement has been ruled out.
“We talked about it as an administrative team, post now for interim and wait until the spring or hire (permanent replacement) now,” Embray said. “And the administrative team was pretty set on trying to do an interim setting now and try to have an applicant pool in the spring.”
Glenwood’s director of student services position heads up the district’s special education program and alternative school as well as the Gifted and Talented, English language learners, homeschool, homeless and at-risk programs.
Embray said the student services position is currently being tweaked and the position may change when a permanent replacement is sought in the spring.
Embray would like to have the interim position filled “as soon as possible.”
An ideal candidate, Embray said, would be a retired administrator or coordinator who has special education or a program services background and understands Iowa law for special education services. The salary for the interim position is negotiable on the candidate’s qualifications and availability.
“We’re probably looking for someone one to three days a week. So we’re obviously looking at reduced services so the costs should be reduced greatly,” Embray said.
Giangreco was paid a salary of $104,620 during the 2012-2013 fiscal year.
