SB-Luton, Mogensen too much for Glenwood

Sergeant Bluff-Luton’s Tyler Mogensen allowed just three hits and one earned run in a 13-1 non-conference baseball victory over Glenwood Friday.

Mogensen gave up just three singles and walked one while striking out three and facing just four over the minimum in the five inning victory.

“Offensively, we had no answer to Sergeant Bluff’s pitching,” Glenwood coach Kurt Schultz said.

The Rams (5-3) had equally little success against the Sergeant Bluff bats, giving up 13 hits and 10 earned runs.  Starter Andrew Holiday went three innings, allowing nine hits and five earned runs, to take the loss.

Rams split with Kuemper

Glenwood split a pair of road Hawkeye 10 Conference baseball games with Kuemper Catholic Thursday in Carroll.

The Rams dropped the opener 4-3 in nine innings and then bounced back to win the nightcap, 9-7.

Glenwood’s game one loss went to extra-inning 3-3 until a passed ball evaded the Ram catcher allowing the Knights to score the walk-off winner from third base.

“We had several opportunities to score the winning run, but failed to do so,” said Glenwood coach Kurt Schultz, adding his team stranded 11 runners in the game one loss.

A.J. Slaughter started and pitched six strong innings, allowing one earned run on six hits while striking out 13 Kuemper batters.  Ethan Fisher came on in relief and allowed no earned runs, but took a tough loss.

Mavrick Decker had two hits and scored a run and Fisher doubled and drove in a run in game one.

In the nightcap, the Rams smacked 13 hits off four Knight pitchers. Slaughter led the way with three hits and also drove in a run. Cole Loeffelbein, Cade Van Ness, Decker and Fisher added two hits apiece.

Glenwood took advantage of four Kuemper errors that led to six Ram runs.

Colton Schutte started and threw well, Schultz said.  The sophomore scattered three hits and did not allow a run over 4 2/3 innings to pick up the win on a night the Rams used four pitchers.
