Safety concern has city looking at extending Glenbrook ‘No Parking’ area

arking” area on the north end of Glenbrook Drive was expected to be addressed Tuesday night, Feb. 23, by the Glenwood City Council.
Glenwood Police Chief Eric Johansen has proposed extending the “No Parking” area on the east side of Glenbrook drive by 145 feet to the south, from 163 Glenbrook Dr. to 159 Glenbrook. The move would take away five parking spots in the residential area, but Johansen and other supporters of the proposed change believe it will greatly reduce the chance of a head-on collision between northbound and southbound motorists at a blind spot at the crest of a hill on Glenbrook Drive.

“Parking is allowed on the east side of the street only,” Johansen pointed out. “Northbound vehicles coming up the hill have to move across the center line to get around the parked vehicles. time, southbound traffic is coming around a corner and up the hill, creating a potentially dangerous situation.”
Several residents of the Glenbrook subdivision attended the Feb. 9 city council meeting to learn more about the proposal. Some voiced their opinions about the plan.

Barb Hammer said she, too, is concerned about the potential for a head-on collision and supports the proposed change.
Marla Hanson, who told council members she’s resided  in Glenbrook for 18 years, doesn’t want to see the five parking spots go away.
“There’s never been an accident up there,” Hanson said. “I’ve talked to several neighbors who want it left alone.”
Hanson said the five parking spots on the street are needed because  most people who live in the neighborhood have multiple vehicles, but only a single-car driveway.
