Rams win Abraham Lincoln invite

The Glenwood girls track team won six gold medals en route to the team title at the Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln Girls Invitational at Wickersham Athletic Complex Thursday.

The Rams tallied 158 points, out-pacing host Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln’s 143 points.

Nora Dougherty had a hand in two gold medals for the Rams. The sophomore won the 400-meters and anchored the 4x100-meter relay to gold.

Dougherty and teammate Zoie Carda also ran well in the open 100, placing fifth and sixth respectively.

“Nora had a good night overall, improving her 400 time,” said Glenwood coach Katie Larsen. “I think now that she has run a few 400s she has figured out how to run it and will help us out at that distance.”
Emma Hughes added an individual gold in the 800-meters.

The Rams also had a strong day in the relays. In addition to winning the 4x100, they topped the field in the 4x400, 4x800 and the distance medley.

Glenwood coach Katie Larsen said she had some fun with her lineups at the relays, running an “all-grade” 4x800 with freshman Neyla Nanfito, sophomore Ryley Nebel, junior Rachel Mullennax, and senior Erin Schultz. The “all-Lauren” distance medley with Lauren Roenfeldt, Lauren Stanislav, Lauren Becker and Lauren Hughes. The “all-Hughes” 4x400 relay team of here with Lauren Hughes, Kate Hughes, Emma Hughes and Abby Hughes ran a season-best time of 4:21.43.

Rachel Mullennax and Marissa Ausdemore also picked up second place medals in the 1500-meters and 100-meter hurdles, respectively.

As good as the Rams were on the night, Larsen said her team is still not at their full compliment with a few athletes still nursing nagging injuries.

“No spots are 100 percent at this time, and we do still have some performances we want to see to solidify who will be running which events come conference and beyond,” Larsen said. “That being said, we have seen solid performances and consistency from several girls. We know who is in the mix, but we haven’t quite nailed down which four are “the” four in most relays. With the depth that we have and have enjoyed, it makes this time of year fun in that there are opportunities for the taking but ultimately tough lineup decisions ahead.”

Glenwood girls, boys
second at LC Invite

The Glenwood girls placed second at the Council Bluffs Lewis Central Co-ed Invitational last Tuesday.

Harlan wrapped up the girls team title with 114 points, just six better than Glenwood’s 108. The Rams finished with four gold medals and placed in the top three in six other events.

“We had a chance to get out and compete with strong teams,” said Glenwood girls coach Katie Larsen. “It’s fun to see what our girls can do when they are pushed. I think again they showed toughness and competitiveness. We still have work to do, but the coaches are feeling good about where we are at right now.”

Marissa Ausdemore had a hand in two gold medals. The senior won the 100-meter hurdles and anchored the shuttle hurdle relay to gold.

“She has been great for us,” Larsen said. “She is a fantastic leader and someone we can look to when we need a solid relay leg. She definitely shows great senior leadership for our team.”

Abby Hughes and Emma Hughes also both had strong days for the Rams.

Abby Hughes won the 400-meter hurdles and placed second in the open 400.

Emma Hughes picked up a gold medal in the 800-meter and ran the anchor for the 4x800-meter relay that placed third.
“Emma is such a strong runner and a great senior leader for the team,” Larsen said.

Nora Doughterty ran a “great” meet, according to Larsen. Her anchor legs in the 4x100 and 4x200-meter helped the Rams to third place finishes in both.

“I look forward to having her back in the lineup since she has been competing in soccer the last couple of meets,” Larsen said.
