Rams fall on road at St. Albert
Council Bluffs St. Albert blew open a 3-1 game with a five run fifth inning in a 9-4 victory over Glenwood Friday in Hawkeye 10 Conference softball.
What looked like a pitcher’s duel between the Falcons’ Jeff Miller and the Rams’ Noah Kolle with no team able to plate a run through three innings, took a turn in the fourth, St. Albert plated three runs in the bottom of the frame. The Rams answered with a run in their next at-bats but the Falcons came right back with five more runs in the bottom of the fifth.
From there, Miller shut the door on the Rams’ hitters. The junior tossed a complete game for the Falcons, allowing four earned runs and seven hits a while striking out 11.
Kolle was credited with the loss on the mound for Glenwood. The junior allowed five hits and three earned runs with two walks and two strikeouts.
“The first three innings he was right there with their pitcher,” said Glenwood coach Kurt Schultz said of Kolle. “And they got to us and we couldn’t get them out. It was a tough one. I thought Noah threw really well until that fourth inning.”
Jeff Miller, Ryan Genereux, Lange Wright and Isaac Sherill paced St. Albert at the plate with two hits apiece. Sherill and Brett Kussman also added two RBIs each.
Michael Mulkerrin, Kayden Anderson and Jayme Fritts had two hits each to lead the Rams.
Harlan 11,
Glenwood 5
A seven run fifth inning and an hour rain delay proved too much for Glenwood to overcome in an 11-5 loss to the Cyclones in Glenwood Thursday.
Glenwood coach Kurt Schultz said his team played pretty well through four innings but the Harlan hitters came alive in the fifth with five hits and five runs.
“We were playing pretty well and playing with them for a few innings but then we got into trouble on the mound with some walks and some hits and they get seven runs,” said Glenwood coach Kurt Schultz. “It’s hard to come back from that.”
Connor Bruck and Joey Moser each notched three hits for the Cyclones. Bruck and Luke Musich each drove in two runs.
Trey Gross came on in relief of starter Franz Reisz to earn the victory on the mound for Harlan. Gross allowed two hits and one earned run and struck out five.
Chad Fisher had two hits and Kayden Anderson doubled and drove in a run to lead Glenwood.
Jayme Fritts started on the hill for the Rams but did not factor in the decision. Fisher was credited with the loss after allowing four hits and seven earned in an inning of work.
Glenwood 5,
Creston 2
Glenwood scored all five of its runs in the top of the sixth inning to rally past Creston 5-2 in its baseball season-opener last Tuesday.
“It looked like a first game,” said Glenwood coach Kurt Schultz. “Took us a few innings to get going, we were inconsistent at the plate and left some runners on but we finally gelled in the fifth and put together some runs.”
The Rams got two hits from Austin Patton and a hit each from Chad Fisher and Zach Carr in the win.
Four Rams pitchers combined to allow just one hit and two earned runs while striking out 10. Austin Patton was credited with the win in relief.
Avery Fuller took the loss on the mound for the Panthers. The sophomore gave up three hits and two earned runs.
