Rams cap perfect week with dual win

The Glenwood boys gold team capped a perfect week with 157 to 189 dual victory over Council Bluffs St. Albert at Fox Run Golf Course in Council Bluffs.

The Rams’ Ryan Leath shot a 1-over-par 37 to win top medalist honors at the dual. Medalist runner-up honors went to Glenwood’s Dax Lappala with a round of 39.

“It was a great day to play golf and the guys took advantage of that,” said Glenwood boys coach Michael Joyner. “We are still struggling with recovering from shots that were not perfect. It’s ok to not hit perfect shots as we’re playing high school golf. However, I’m really encouraged with where we are right now.”

Joyner feels like his team is peaking at just the right time.

“We’re hitting a good stride of days which we can practice and then go out and perform during a meet or tournament.

The goal is to peak for 5 days in May and I think we have a good chance to do so.”

Eli Bales carded a 40 and Nick Stavas a 41 to cap the Rams’ scoring.

Elliott Shaw led St. Albert with a round of 44.

Bales wins Shenandoah dual

Eli Bales won top honors and the Glenwood boys golf team scored a 158 to 190 victory over Shenandoah in a Hawkeye 10 Conference dual at the American Legion Country Club in Shenandoah last Tuesday.
Bales shot a 3-over-par 38 to win top individual honors.

“This was an awesome day on the course for the guys,” said Glenwood coach Michael Joyner. “We’re in the middle of a ton of competitions and fighting through the mental fatigue is important. I’m still excited to throw a 158 out there and can’t wait for them to keep getting better.”

Pierce Harrington, Colby Aistrope and Ryan Leath all shot rounds of 40 but Harrington was declared the runner up on a cardback tie-breaker.

Nick Carlson and Devin Morelock each carded a 46 to lead Shenandoah.

Rams win Denison invite

Glenwood edged Spencer by two strokes to win the team title at the Denison Invitational Boys Golf Tournament last Monday at Majestic Hills Golf Course.

The Rams shot a 316 to the Spencer’s team round of 318 to secure the title.

“What a great performance by our guys today,” said Glenwood coach Michael Joyner. “I’m really proud of the way they battled the conditions and their own game on a tough course. We’re looking forward to building on this momentum and hope to peak in May.”

Atlantic’s Matt Gearheart overcame the cold and windy conditions to win top individual honors with an even part round of 71.

Glenwood’s Dax Lappala carded a 77 to lead three Rams in the top 12. Ryan Leath’ shot a 78, Eli Bales a 79 and Nick Stavas an 82.
