Ralph Donald Mayberry, 81, of Glenwood, died March 4, 2009, in Council Bluffs. Funeral services were held Monday, March 9, 2009, at Peterson Mortuary in Glenwood with Pastor Perry Perrett officiating. Interment was in the Glenwood Cemetery
He was born Sept. 22, 1927, in Glenwood, to Shirley DeWitt and Ethel Oney (Doran) Mayberry.
He was united in marriage to Charlene JoAnn Roberts on Feb. 16, 1957, in Plattsmouth, Neb. They resided in Glenwood where he was employed with the Glenwood Resource Center until his retirement. He faithfully served his country in the Navy during the Korean War and World War II. Mr. Mayberry was a member of V.F.W. and the Glenwood American Legion Post 141. He was a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Glenwood. Throughout his lifetime, he enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, coin collecting, gardening, and could often be found playing a game of solitaire.
Preceding Mr. Mayberry in death were his parents; wife Charlene; son Mark Mayberry; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; seven brothers; and one sister. He is survived by his children Jim Ratliff of Omaha; Kathy Archer of Albuquerque, N.M.; Susan Mayberry of Glenwood; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother Darrell Mayberry of Glenwood; several nieces, nephews, extended relatives and a host of friends.
Memorials are suggested to the Glenwood Senior Center.
