Quick Creston start dooms Rams in loss loss

Creston blocked a punt and scored a 47 yard touchdown pass to go up 13-0 before Glenwood had even run a handful of plays in a 47-6 Panther win in Class 3A, District 1 football on Friday.
“They are the top team in the district but I didn’t think we played as good as we could,” said Glenwood coach Brian Albert. “We didn’t get it turned on quick enough and things snowballed on us.”
Glenwood went three-and-out on its opening drive but a bobbled snap and a blocked punt gave the Panthers the early 6-0 after a missed extra point.
The Rams went three-and-out on the ensuing possession leading to a 47-yard Drew Neitzel touchdown pass.
The quick strikes and early lead before most in the crowd had even found a seat, stunned the Rams, Albert said.
“They jumped on us quick and we didn’t handle it well,” Albert said.
Creston (7-1 overall, 6-0 in the district) picked off three Ram passes in addition to the blocked punt and harassed quarterback Grant Stivers into 9-of-33 passing for 90 yards. For the game, the Panthers out-gained Glenwood 441 to 253. The Panthers’ ground gain chewed up 381 yards.
The Rams lone score came on Spencer Smith’s 12-yard scamper. The touchdown was the sophomore’s first varsity score.
Levi Henderson led the Rams with 10 tackles including seven solo stops.
