Purses, Wallets Stolen During Vehicle Break-ins

The Glenwood Police Department is advising residents to lock their vehicle doors and protect their valuables following a rash of break-ins and thefts.

Glenwood Police Chief Eric Johansen said seven “forced and unforced” vehicle break-ins resulting in the theft of purses and/or wallets have been reported over the past three weeks. Five of the incidents took place last week, often during daylight hours.

“We’re still looking for a black Dodge Journey,” Johansen said.

The vehicle being sought was captured on video last Wednesday morning by a camera at the Jim Hughes Real Estate office, where a break-in and theft had occurred on the parking lot. The vehicle appears to be identical to a vehicle caught on camera during a break-in and theft in Nebraska City, Johansen said. Investigators have not been able to determine what state the license plates on the vehicle are from.

Johansen urged residents to take precautions when parking their vehicles.

“Please don’t leave valuables in your vehicle and absolutely don’t leave anything of value in plain site,” Johansen said. “If you do have to have something valuable in your vehicle, secure it in the trunk.”

Johansen added that vehicles should be locked when unattended.
