Playground Equipment, Sports Facilities Off Limits At City Parks

As of last Wednesday, the playground equipment at Glenwood Lake Park and Hiley-Kiwanis Park in Glenwood is closed to the public out of concern for the possible spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Yellow “CAUTION” tape has been wrapped around the playground equipment and signs have been posted at both parks. The signs also state “Use of picnic tables is at your own risk.” Citizens who use the tables are asked to wipe down the table before and after use.

City parks do remain open for walking, running, biking, fishing, and other outdoor activities, however restrooms will remain closed and water will not be turned on. The city has also indefinitely suspended the rental of picnic shelters and temporarily closed its athletic facilities (ballfields, tennis courts, basketball courts, ect.) to the public.

Following discussion at their meeting last week, members of the the Glenwood City Council elected to hold off opening the campground at the south end of Glenwood Lake Park. The city has received requests from camper owners who want to move into the park on April 1, but council members have concerns about allowing campers at the park during the COVID-19 pandemic.
