Camden pours in 34 in Glenwood victory
Glenwood got out to a 47-17 halftime lead and Madison Camden poured in a game-high 34 points for the Rams in a 69-31 win over Denison on Senior Night in Glenwood.
The complexion of the Rams’ rematch with the Monarchs had much different look and feel than a 54-33 December win. In that one, Glenwood was without Camden and could muster just seven first quarter points before finally pulling away in the second half.
Glenwood jumped out to a 22-8 first quarter lead and then piled on in the second quarter with a 25-9 run.
“We had a slow start the first time we played Denison early in the year and Madison (Camden) wasn’t able to play yet and we were focused and ready to play this time,” said Glenwood coach Brian Rasmussen. “I think the girls certainly took the challenge and I feel had one of our best starts of this season. This is the right time of year to be starting well. That carried over into the second quarter.”
Camden was 13-of-20 from the field, including 7-of-14 from behind the arc for her game-high scoring night.
“She had a great game, inside and out,” Rasmussen said. “She was able to knock them down and her teammates were feeling it and feeding her the ball. It was a good game for her.”
Jenna Hopp added 12 points, five assists and four rebounds.
Defensively the Rams held Denison to 27.5 percent shooting (11-of-40) and forced 24 turnovers.
“They weren’t fully armed, they had some injuries and some illness but that’s how they rolled out and I thought we were prepared and focused and did a nice job taking care of business,” Rasmussen said.
Hannah Slater paced Denison with 13 points.
Glenwood (16-4 overall, 10-0 in the conference) opens Class 4A, Region 8 play on Saturday at home against the winner of Carroll (10-11) and Council Bluffs Lewis Central (11-10). Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Glenwood trailed 19-18 after a quarter but then outscored Council Bluffs Lewis Central 44-17 over the final three quarters in a 62-36 win in Hawkeye 10 Conference girls basketball last Tuesday.
The Rams shot 44.2 percent from the field, including 9-of-27 from behind the arc, and held a 36-23 rebounding edge.
Brynlee Arnold led three Rams in double-figures with 16 points. Abby Hughes and Madison Camden scored 12 points each.
Kylee Brown scored 12 points off the bench to lead the Titans.
