Glenwood sweeps Tigers in road victory
Brynlee Arnold and Charley Hernandez combined for 19 kills for Glenwood in a 26-24, 25-18, 25-13 sweep of Red Oak in Hawkeye 10 Conference volleyball last Tuesday.
Glenwood coach Paula Carman felt like her team started off slow but overall she was pleased with her team’s balance.
“All the girls contributed in a lot of different ways so we were spread out in our offense and our serving and everything so it was great to see everybody contribute,” the coach said.
The Rams (13-2) notched 38 kills and hit an efficient .238 n the three-set winner.
“I think in the first set we struggled to find a groove,” Carman said of her team’s hitting. “We started off passing really well, which usually helps the offense flow a lot faster, but we were kind of out of synch, out of rhythm and I don’t think we were as aggressive when we came out in the first set maybe because we were afraid to make mistakes. But once we let go and the girls started swinging hard everyone was hitting well by the end of the night.”
Arnold led the way with 10 kills and added six blocks defensively.
Hernandez had nine kills. The freshman has emerged as one of the Rams’ top hitters after a strong summer and a fall camp that saw her improve her versatility the more opportunities she had.
“We have high expectations so we sometimes forget she’s a freshman,” Carman said. “She’s done a lot of great things for us and she’s really coming into her own.”
Lauren Roenfeldt dished up 32 set assists and added 10 digs for the Rams.
