Snowy, Cold Blast of Winter

Freezing rain, ice, sleet, snow, high winds, frigid temperatures.
Mills County has experienced it all over the past two weeks.

Five days of on-and-off precipitation culminated with a major winter storm last Tuesday and Wednesday that generated more than 6 inches of snow across Mills County. Even higher snowfall amounts were reported in Montgomery and Page counties to the east.

The winter weather forced school closings on Tuesday and Wednesday and the postponement and cancellation of several extra-curricular activities throughout the week.

Another inch of snow fell early Saturday morning but gave way temporarily to partly sunny skies and moderate temperatures over the weekend.

The reprieve didn’t last long, however, as high winds, with gusts up to 50 and 60 mph, moved in Sunday night and early Monday morning, setting up a drastic drop in temperatures.

Single-digit high temperatures and sub-zero lows were predicted  for Tuesday and Wednesday.

The good news is that seasonable temperatures, with highs in the mid to upper 30s, are in the forecast this weekend.
