Duane N. Sell, 84, Glenwood

Duane Nelson Sell, 84, of Glenwood, died April 19, 2009, at Linnwood Estates in Glenwood. Services were held Thursday, April 23, 2009, at St. John Lutheran Church in Mineola. Pastor Stephany Sanborn, Pastor Darrell Hopp and John Paul officiated. Interment will be in the Mineola Cemetey at a later date

Mr. Sell was born Sept. 19, 1924, in Mills County, to Lowell I. And Ruth Mae (Williams) Sell. He graduated from Glenwood High School with the Class of 1943. On Sept. 7, 1945, he was united in marriage to Ruth Pauline Roenfeld at St. John Lutheran Church in Mineola. To this union four children were born, Deborah Ann, Michael Duane, Steven Charles and Teresa Louise. He engaged in farming in the Mineola area and remained active in agriculture his entire life. His devotion to the land was never-ending.

Throughout the years, he was involved in numerous civic and agricultural organizations. He was past president of the Farm Bureau, past member of the Glenwood Community Board of Education, past 4-H leader, which later led to being an Honorary member and served on the Mills County Fair Board. He was also on the Western Iowa Mutual Insurance Board of Directors, Mills County Board of Review, Mineola Cemetery Board, National Cattleman’s Board and was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church where he served on numerous committees.

Some of his favorite interests included gardening, crop touring and his most treasured times were spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whenever possible, he would follow as many of their activities and was always proud of their accomplishments. His quick wit and gentle nature will be deeply missed by each individual life that he touched.

Preceding Mr. Sell in death were his parents; wife, Ruth; sister, Maxine Roenfeldt; brothers, Ercell Sell; Dale Sell; twin grandsons and great-granddaughter, Autumn Grace Buckingham. He is survived by his children, Deborah Ann and husband Joe Taylor; Michael Duane and wife Mary Ann Sell; Steven Charles and wife Judy Sell all of Glenwood; Teresa Louise and husband Mark Buckingham of Pacific Junction; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Geneva Phelps of Prescott, Ariz.; brothers, Vern Sell of Tabor; Ed Sell of Malvern; Floyd Sell of Omaha; several nieces, nephews, extended relatives and a host of friends. A memorial fund has been established. Peterson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
