Knights first, second at Relays

The host Knights won the boys team title and the girls were second at the Fremont-Mills Co-ed Invitational Relays last Friday in Tabor.

The Knight boys won the team crown with 133 points to out-pace runner up A-H-S-T’s 107.5. The East Mills boys squad placed fourth, just two points out of third.

Fremont-Mills boys got individual gold medals from Parker Powers (110-meter hurdles), Jason Rusten (3,200-meters) and Spencer Phillips (discus). The Knights added top finishes in the shuttle hurdle, 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays.

The Knights also added second place showings from Dakota Moss-Erickson in the 1,600-meters, Powers in the high jump and long jump, Sam Phillips in the discus and from their 4x200-meter relay teams.

East Mills boys Sam Rew earned gold in the high jump. The Wolverines’ 4x800-meter relay also took home gold. In all, East Mills placed in the top three in eight events.

The Glenwood junior varsity boys track team also competed at the meet, placing eighth with 23 points. The Rams’ shuttle hurdle relay took home second in the shuttle hurdle relay with a top of 1:07.94. The 4x400-meter relay also placed fourth as did William Ingles in the 1,600-meters.

The Fremont-Mills girls placed in all seven relays, taking home gold in the 4x400-meter, shuttle hurdle and sprint medley relays, to place second in the team standings behind Clarinda’s 131 points. The Knights finished with 104 points.    

The Knights got individual gold medal performances from Andrea McClary (100-meter hurdles) and Kelsey Hurley (high jump) and placed in the top three in 10 events.

The East Mills’ girls placed sixth at the meet with 40 points. Magdalena Weller led the Wolverines with a top finish in the 800-meters. Sarai Waddell added a second place medal in the high jump.

The Glenwood girls junior varsity finished seventh with 39 points. Arianna Springer was the Rams top individual place winner with a second place showing in the 400-meter dash. The Rams were also third in the 4x800-meter relay and fourth in the shuttle hurdle relay.

Wolverines win seven golds at Essex

The East Mills boys won five gold medals and the girls two at the Trojan and Trojanette Relays in Essex last Monday.

The Wolverine boys got gold medal winning performances from Ben Christensen (110-meter hurdles), Alec Moorman (high jump) and from its 4x100-meter, 4x200-meter and distance medley relay teams to win the boys team title with 161 points.

In all, the boys placed in the top three in 15 events.

The girls finished third as a team with 81 points. The host Trojanettes were the team champion with 175 points.
The Wolverines were led by Sarai Waddell’s double-gold medal performances in the 400-meter hurdles and the high jump.

Kendra Croghan added a pair of third place medals in the 100-meters and 200-meters while Zena Courtier was second in the 800.

The Wolverines’ shuttle hurdle relay finished second with a time of 1:24.79.
