Glenwood harriers strong at Shenandoah invite
Mark Abrams stayed perfect on the year and the Glenwood boys once again nipped Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson for the team title at the Shenandoah Invitational on Thursday.
Glenwood finished on top of the team standings with 44 points to Thomas Jefferson's 42 points. The Rams edged T.J. by a single point at the Harlan Invitational on Sept. 24.
Mark Abrams ran away with his fifth meet title in as many tries with a time of 16:43. Cade Cleaveland of Riverside was second with a time of 17:04.
Jeff Reeve placed fifth and Brady Wheeler sprinted to the finish, passing up a pair of Thomas Jefferson runners to place seventh for Glenwood.
James Fuller and Pascal Oosterik placed 14th and 15th, respectively for Glenwood.
Jakob Rhodes added a 24th place finish and, in his varsity debut, Baker Cambridge was 34th.
The Glenwood girls placed sixth at Shenandoah, seven points behind fifth place Corning.
The host Fillies grabbed the team title with a team score of 42.
Lizzy Young placed 19th to pace Glenwood. Her time was 17:04.
Morgan Naughton added a 23rd place finish and Ana Frazee was right behind at 24th.
Mikaela Stanek turned in a 28th place finish while Chelsea Webster was 36th, followed by Morgan Scott (42nd) and Breanna Van Meeteran (44th).
The Glenwood junior varsity boys dominated the field, winning seven of the top 10 spots, led by Cuentin Gray's second place showing. Mercedes Liparoto's fourth place time of 18:30 led the girls junior varsity to a second place team showing in team standings.
The Glenwood boys and girls middle school cross country teams both won their meets. Kobe Rhodes and four other runners placing in the top 12 for the boys and the girls were led by Phoenix Capps' second place showing.
