Florence M. Johnson, 92, Fort Dodge

April 17, 1918 - January 29, 2011

    Florence Marie (Lindblom) Johnson, 92, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 29, 2011.  Marie, formally of Storm Lake, passed away at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center in Fort Dodge. 
    Marie was born in Anita on April 17, 1918. She graduated from Anita High School and then went on to Normal Training and received her State of Iowa certification for teaching.  She taught in a one-room country school house, teaching first through eighth grade in rural Adair County.  Marie was united in marriage to Clyde Clifford Johnson in Anita, on Dec. 24, 1939.  They made their home in Anita until they moved to Cherokee.  Throughout their beginning years, they were transferred to various cities while Cliff Sr. was working for Gamble-Skogmo Hardware Stores, eventually leading them to Storm Lake.  They made their home there for nearly 60 years.  She was a homemaker while her children were growing up and later worked for JC Penney’s and Verne’s Variety Store as a clerk.  Marie then joined Cliff in their business at the Singer Sewing Center in Storm Lake.  She enjoyed teaching sewing lessons and helping customers with their new sewing machines. 
    Marie was a member of the Buena Vista Chapter-Daughters of the American Revolution.  She was also an active member of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women’s circle and sang in the chancel choir until she moved to Fort Dodge in 2003 to live with her son, Cliff, Jr.  She regularly attended First Presbyterian Church in Fort Dodge and after declining health, moved to the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center.
    She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who kept her faith and devotion to Jesus Christ central in her life.
    Marie is survived by her sister Evangeline Meyers of Amarillo, Texas, and her sons Clyde Clifford (Karen) Johnson Jr. of Fort Dodge, and Gary Lee (Sherry) Johnson of Glenwood; her grandchildren, Kia (Scott) Deuel, Kari (Todd) Constable of Fort Dodge, Kristina Johnson and husband Sean McNamee of Minneapolis, Minn.,  Jana (Terry) Manning of Waukesha, Wis., and Brant (Therese) Johnson of Waukee; her great-grandchildren Zachary, Alexander and Jacob Deuel of Fort Dodge, Noel, Gabrielle and Joseph Constable of Fort Dodge; Collin and Connor Manning of Waukesha, Wis., and Andrew and Aubree Johnson of Waukee, numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Flossie Lindblom of Anita, her brothers, Glen Lindblom of Anita, and Carl Lindblom of Iowa City, sisters Agnes Johnson of Anita, Marjorie and Mary Elizabeth who both died in infancy and her loving husband Clyde Clifford Johnson, Sr. of 50 years.  
    Services will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 3, at the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Dodge with the Rev. J. Faulkner Martin officiating. Interment will be in the Storm Lake Municipal Cemetery in Storm Lake at 2:30 p.m.  The visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Fort Dodge and then from 10:30 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church.
