Franklin Henry Raymond, age 85, of Pacific Junction
Franklin Henry Raymond, age 85, of Pacific Junction, died at the Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs on March 9, 2010. Visitation was held at Hertz Funeral Home in Glenwood, Thursday, March 11, 2010. Funeral services were held at the funeral home on Friday, March 12, 2010. Officiating was Pastor Michael Stevens, Pacific Junction United Methodist Church. Interment was in the Glenwood Cemetery. Following the committal service, lunch and fellowship with the family was held at the Pacific Junction United Methodist Church.
One of three children of Lindsey Lawrence Raymond and Hazel Opal (Hunter) Raymond, he was born at his parents’ home in Pacific Junction, on June 16, 1924. Mr. Raymond grew up in Pacific Junction where he graduated in 1943. After high school, he started his own trucking company, hauling grain and livestock for area farmers. During World War II, he went to work at the Martin Bomber Plant in Bellevue, Neb. After the plant was closed, he went to work for the railroad.
On May 22, 1953, Franklin and Marcella Rose Stuchl were married in Clarinda. They made their home in Abie, Neb., where they owned and operated a restaurant and bar. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Cynthia Marie, LinDee Lorraine, John Lynn and Larry Lynn. The family returned to Pacific Junction and he worked for a short time for the Lyman-Richey Company in Omaha, before taking a maintenance position with the Stauffer Chemical Company in Omaha. Franklin was an active member of the Pacific Junction United Methodist Church and the Glenwood Kiwanis Club. He loved to hunt and fish. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family at their summer home near Brookings, S.D., where he loved to boat and water ski.
In 1987, Mr. Raymond retired after 22 years as Stauffer Chemical’s maintenance chief. He and Marcella enjoyed retirement and remained active in their church and community. Marcella and Franklin had been married 56 years when he died.
Mr. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Wyvetta Raymond and Norma Raymond; and grandson Chris Raymond. He is survived by his wife Marcella Raymond of Pacific Junction; daughters, Cynthia Codr and husband Arnold of Tabor; and LinDee McCall and husband Michael of Richmond, Va.; sons, John Raymond and wife Denise; and Larry Raymond and wife Rachel, all of Harrah, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
